Football sensation Gabadinho Mhango’s father, Society, has said he is proud of his son’s exploits.
Speaking to Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Friday from his home in Chiweta, Rumphi, Society said he is happy that his son is having the last laugh after being subjected to ridicule surrounding his age and Junior Certificate of Education examinations failure.
“It is a relief that after all that was said, he has not lost focus and he is doing well in South Africa,” Society said.
Gabadinho has taken the South African flagship league by storm in which he is now the third leading scorer with seven goals, three behind leading scorer Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana marksman Bernard Parker.
The 22-year-old forward has scored in three consecutive games for his club Bloemfontein Celtic.
Society said he believes his son can scale greater heights and play for top leagues in Europe such as Spain and England if he can keep his cool.
“I advised him to refrain from getting into unnecessary confrontations with match officials as he was doing here and focus on his game,” said the father.
He also said while he is proud that his son is now playing in the South Africa’s top league, he was disappointed that the then Bullets leadership kept him in the dark about the whole deal.
And speaking in an interview from South Africa yesterday, Gabadinho said he hopes that he will be able to translate his club form to the Flames.
On whether he is eyeing the Golden Boot Award in only his first season in the Rainbow Nation, Gabadinho said: “My focus is just to establish myself and reward Celtic for their faith in me. I want to help them win as many games as possible, but should I win the top scorer award, then it will be a bonus,” said Gabadinho.
