Gabadinho Mhango scored as Bloemfontein Celtic squeezed Kinnah Phiri’s Free State Stars into South Africa Premiership relegation zone with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

In the Free State derby played at Goble Park, Mhango opened the scoring on the 34th minute against the run of play.

SuperSport website reported that Mhango was substituted on the 67th minute for Lerato Lamola, who eventually added the second goal.

“Frank Mhango opened the scoring for Siwelele very much against the run of play in the 34th minute. Stars failed to sufficiently clear Musa Nyatama’s free-kick, Mhango gathered the clearance before powering the ball past Mtshali,” reported www.supersport.com.

It was Mhango’s fourth league goal in seven matches. He joins on similar number of goals compatriots Robert Ng’ambi and Esau Kanyenda. Bernard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs leads the scoring chart on eight goals.

Another Malawian, Limbikani Mzava, did not play for Celtic probably because he is still working his way back to match fitness after suffering an injury last December.

The win moves Celtic into ninth place, level on points with Ajax Cape Town while Stars’ loss means they remain in the dreaded relegation play-off zone.
