Chris Gaunt bade farewell to junior golf in style on Saturday when he emerged the overall winner of the back-to-school Under-13 Junior Golf Challenge at Blantyre Sports Club.

He emerged the champion in the nine-hole category with 48 strokes. The tournament was sponsored by Kips Restaurant.

Chris, who turned 13 last week, will no longer be eligible for the junior tournaments. He will now be competing at senior level.

However, he appeared unmoved with the prospect of competing with the seniors declaring that he is ready for the challenge.

“Winning this tournament means a lot to me. It is going to be tougher competing at senior level, but I am ready for it,” said Gaunt with a boyish grin.

Speaking on behalf of Kips, one of the directors Waseem Giga thanked the young golfers for showing a lot of enthusiasm towards the programme.

Giga said Kips is proud to be associated with the development of the game at junior level. He also said Kips ensures to give its customers value for their money and do not compromise quality.

A member of the Junior Challenge Tournament, Hudson Kantwanje, thanked the sponsors, participants and parents for showing keen interest in the programme.

Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) president James Chimwaza, who was the guest of honour, thanked the parents for their commitment towards the cause.
