Gawani suspended for four games

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has slapped Airborne Rangers’ assistant-coach player Kondwani Gawani with a four-game suspension for alleged unsporting behaviour during a TNM Super League game against Blantyre United at Kamuzu Stadium on September 28 2014.

In Sulom’s determination, vice-general secretary Thoko Chazema wrote on Wednesday that Gawani grabbed and tore a red card he received during the game that also had the Rangers’ assistant coach Charles Banda expelled from the technical area.

“Gawani has until 1800 hours of Friday, 24 October, 2014 to respond to the charge. Airborne Rangers FC has to replace the torn red card to the National Referees Committee before its next fixture.” said Chazema.

Rangers will not be in action this coming weekend.

The former MDC United and Escom United player Gawani, yesterday said: “I did not tear the red card, but if they say I snatched it from the referee and showed it to him in face as a reminder that his officiation was faulty, I will agree.”
