The inventor of gendaball Francis Mwalabu has donated sets of uniforms to six teams at Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, in Zomba.

In an interview yesterday, he said he made the donation as a way of motivating players who have shown keen interest in the sport.

“They have not only developed passion for the game, but they are also promoting the sport at college.

“I was pleased to return to the college that helped shape my life to make this donation,” said Mwalabu.

Receiving the donation on behalf the students, the college’s sports officer Mayamiko Likoya thanked Mwalabu for the gesture, saying it will help boost the popularity of the sport at the college.

A players’ representative Susan Makangala was all smiles and described the donation as a Christmas gift.

She said: “The uniforms will make us look smart and this will in turn attract more students at the campus to join the sport.”

Gendaball was introduced at Chancellor College, last year and the college’s administration has since incorporated it as one of its sporting codes.

The college has also announced plans to introduce the sport in surrounding schools as one way of promoting it.
