Genetrix Hockey Club has qualified for the Africa Club Hockey Championships slated for Khumalo Stadium in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in December.
The club has made it into the international showpiece following their success in the 2013 FMB 11-Aside League where they swept both the men and women’s trophies.

However, according to the club’s coach Geoffrey Biya, they are in a fix on how to make the trip as they are struggling to find the required K5.3 million (US$11 398).
“This is why we are appealing to companies and well-wishers to help us fulfill our dreams of achieving glory in the prestigious international event. Out of the K5.3 million we need, K3 million will be used for accommodation while K2 million will be used for transport,” he said.
If they make the trip, it will be the third time they have taken part in an international competition. Last year, they   participated in the Phoenix Assurance Hockey Tournament in Zambia, where their men’s side won gold.

In 2012, Genetrix qualified for the Africa Championships where they were eliminated in the first round.
Then, the Indominable Sharkia of Egypt won the title for the record 20th time.
Clubs from 17 African countries, including Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Morocco will take part in the continental event.
