You Are Not Alone eV, a German non-governmental organisation (NGO), last week donated a clinic at Pilimiti in Zomba District.

The clinic will be run by health personnel from Pirimiti Health Centre where two medical doctors and nurses will be assigned to examine up to 250 patients from morning to evening.

Caputula (2nd L) and Njuguna cut the ribbon

Speaking during the handover, the organisation’s founder Stella Golgua-Caputula said the clinic will assist those who cannot afford health care services in private clinics.

“This is the right project for this community because they will be getting treatment for free. The availability of the facility will also reduce infant mortality rate as most children die because of lack of basic health care,” she said.

Caputula added that last year they built a school block at Sakatama Primary School as most children were learning under trees.

“We have constructed four water taps for the community to access safe water and currently we are constructing a nursery school next to the clinic,” she said.

Pilimiti Health Centre director Sister Mary Njuguna said people used to walk long distances to access healthcare.

“We will be coming once a month to assist the patients and as time goes by, we will be visiting once a week,” she said.

Group village head Mindano said the project will improve health service delivery in his area.

Rose Chitseko, a villager, commended the organisation for the clinic. “Children seeking under five services will be assisted closer now,” she said.
