The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany says it will once again sponsor this year’s Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) as it continues its partnership with the festival.

In a statement released on Monday, the embassy said it has pumped in 3 000 euros (about K660 000) towards the festival, which will take place in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre, from October 5 2012 to October 7.

Reads the statement on the support which dates back to 2009: “The last three years have seen the Blantyre Arts Festival grow and attain not only a national reputation for showcasing a wide spectrum of the arts like visual arts, poetry, dance, music, theatre, comedy and photography but also international recognition.

“The German Embassy is, therefore, proud to announce that it will be sponsoring the Blantyre Arts Festival 2012 with a contribution equivalent to 3 000 euros.”

The statement said to mark the continuing partnership between the Embassy and BAF, an agreement was signed between German Ambassador Dr Peter Woeste and BAF executive director Thomas Chibambo in Lilongwe on Monday.
