Ghanaian player on trials at Silver
Ghanaian starlet Samuel Siaw is attending trials with 2013/ 2014 Standard Bank Trophy kings Silver Strikers, the Bankers’ general secretary Mike Tembo confirmed on Tuesday.
“He will undergo the trials for 30 days. An administrator friend of ours in Ghana put in a good word about him as a very good striker. He even paid for the player’s air ticket,” Tembo explained about the 16-year-old.
Silver, who boast other quality strikers such as Chawanangwa Kawonga, Rodrick Gonani and Peter Wadabwa will establish with Ghana Football Association on Siaw’s status regarding a contract with his previous club called D’International of division one zone 3A; a tier below the elite Ghana’s Glo Premier League.
Asked if a quality player from Ghana would aspire to play in Malawi, Tembo said: “He is young and somebody who wants to make a name and eventually go to a bigger league. We will assess him.”
The Nation
was unable to contact the new player, but www.allsport.com.gh/football/fifa-youth has Siaw appearing on Asante Kotoko Under-20 squad for the annual Blue Star/Fifa youth competition held in May 2014 in Switzerland.
Then Telecom Wanderers’ goalkeeper Thom Aido was last Ghanaian to grace the Super League after establishing himself at Telecom Wanderers. Absence of foreign players is partly faulted for the domestic league’s falling standards.
