Global Hope Mobilisation (Glohomo) has launched a project called Kalondolondo wa Amama (Kwap) which is Tumbuka for Follow up on Mothers in Mzimba District.

The project, with funding from Positive Action for Children Fund (Pacf), aims at providing solutions on loss to follow up in prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT).

Glohomo executive director Caleb Thole said in a statement on Saturday the project will be initiated in three traditional authorities (T/As) of M’mbelwa, Mzukuzuku and Mzikubola until 2016.

“The project is being implemented to contribute towards the reduction of new infections in infants and children so as to reduce the rate of increase and impact of HIV and Aids in Malawi.

“It also seeks to increase access and adherence of HIV+ women to PMTCT and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights [SRHR] services by increasing community-based follow-ups and referrals of women for possible treatment,” said Thole.

He said the project will also raise awareness on how to prevent HIV so as to maintain negativity among the HIV- women.

“The launch of the project follows news that Mzimba has few projects on PMTCT. In the three T/As, where Global Hope Mobilisation is operational, people are facing drastically health-related issues,” he said.
