Some active goalkeepers are also taking part in the training.

Said Heredia: “To the participants, pay attention during the course because you are the last people to be trained by Fifa. From now on, Fifa will train local instructors who will be conducting such courses.

“Fifa expects the coaches to be an integral part of football teams and must have knowledge and experience.”

On his part, FAM executive committee member Tiya Somba Banda, who is also the association’s technical sub-committee chairperson, urged goalkeeper trainers to be committed and work hard to help drill good goalkeepers in the country.

He said the course has come at the right time when malawi has challenges in goalkeeping; hence, the need for the trainers to use it as an opportunity to get more knowledge.

Somba Banda, who is also Super League of Malawi president, said: “We did an evaluation of our game and we noticed that there are some gaps in both technical and tactical capacity, especially in goalkeeping not only among players, but also their trainers and we requested Fifa to organise a course for goalkeeper trainers to build their capacity.

“This is also an opportunity for Malawian goalkeeper trainers to professionally grow because according to fifa, this is the last time that they are sending an instructor for such a course, meaning that some of the participants will be trainers of goalkeeper trainers.”

He said they expect the participants to make the best out of the course to become better trainers.

Among the participants are Swadick Sanudi (Flames and Nyasa Big Bullets), Sibusiso Padambo (Malawi Under-20 National Team and Silver Strikers), Phillip Nyasulu (Malawi Women’s National Team and Civo United), Vales Kamzere (Mighty Wanderers),  Jaffalie Saizi (Red Lions) and Vincent Gona (Bullets Reserves).

Active goalkeepers who are taking part include  Charles Swini (Civo), John Soko (Blue Eagles), Mcdonald Harawa (Moyale Barracks)  Brightone Munthali (Silver), Ernest Kakhobwe (Bullets) and Simplex Nthala (unattached).
