Golf team starts Zone VI preps

The national golf team is today expected to tee-off its preparations for the Zone VI Golf Tournament to be held in Manzini, Swaziland during the first week of April.

According to a communiqué from the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) signed by its president Frank Mvalo, 18 players have been selected to start undergoing training at their respective golf courses.

“As is the tradition, our national golf team will participate in this tournament,” the statement reads in part.

According to Mvalo, GUoM through its order of merit system and the junior golf development programme has selected Adam Sailesi, Paul Chidale, Gift Landisi, Gabriel Kambalame, Dan Phiri, Chimwemwe Chimwaza, Godfrey Chisale, Witman Brown, Alfred Chikale, Charles Kambalame, Shycal Nthakomwa, Kondwani Mphulla, Bob Dambo, George Chisambo, Christopher Mzokomera, Richard Beza, Symon Moses and Ashu Godambe.

GUoM has since asked various golf clubs to allow the selected players to use the courses and practice ranges “free of charge” as they are preparing for national duty.

“I am also appealing to you to allow them to take part in competitions. However, if they want to be eligible to win prizes, then they should pay competition fees as determined by the respective committees,” said Mvalo.
