Christopher Nyambose has made a good start as Chitipa United coach after guiding them to a 1-0 win against visiting Mafco FC on Sunday as the club fights relegation in the TNM Super League.

Chitipa United anchor the 16-team top-flight league with seven points from 10 games and this was only their second win.

Nyambose: There is still a lot of work

Nyambose was appointed interim  coach in February replacing Alex Ngwira and he has since  been confirmed as the team’s permanent coach.

The club’s general secretary Duma Ngoma said: “We are happy with him. The way the team is playing gives us confidence that he is the right person.

“He has been hired on full-time basis for the next two seasons.”

Ngoma said he was pleased with the response from the players, but admitted there is still more work to do.

“The importance of the win against Mafco is that it has brought about renewed confidence and self belief in the team.

“I am happy that the players are responding well to training sessions and making good application of tactics during games. But there is still more work to be done,” he said.

The team has two difficult away fixtures against struggling giants Be Forward Wanderers and Mighty Tigers on Saturday and Sunday, respectively in Blantyre.

“Playing away has always been difficult because we are subjected to intimidation and our players grow cold feet. This is another area we hope Mr. Nyambose will help us. The players need to get rid of stage fright when playing away,” said Ngoma.
