GOtv Netball Champions League will return to action on October 16 at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu with an enhanced sponsorship package and more exciting surprises.

MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said yesterday that the official opening ceremony will follow at the same venue on October 17.

He said the competition, whose new sponsorship package will be known tomorrow, will for the first time incorporate Mzuzu-based teams thereby bringing the tournament to all the country’s major cities, where GOtv signal exists at the moment.

Initially, only top teams from Blantyre and Lilongwe contested in the tournament whose format has been changed from that of the Fast5 Netball Series to a round robin format that will see teams divided into two groups, namely, GOtv Value and GOtv Plus. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

This means defending champions Complex Tigresses, Kukoma Diamonds and Thunder Queens from Blantyre and Lilongwe-based Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets and Mafco will battle for glory against Mzuzu outfits Lameck Queens and Mimosa Queens.

“For the first time in history of netball in Malawi, the draw will be conducted live on Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Thursday from 8.30pm. It is during that draw that prize money and more information about this year’s tournament will be disclosed,” Nyirenda said.

He added that ZBS will be the official broadcaster of the league and selected games will covered live.
