Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Jameson Ndalama, has commended Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company for sponsoring netball and football trophies for Under-12 and Under-15 in Lilongwe.

In an interview after the final football match between Tsabango LEA School and Mchesi Primary School at Area 30 on Saturday, Ndalama said Limbe Leaf has proved to be a true partner in sports development.

Said Ndalama: “It is government’s prerogative to promote football and netball in the country, but it is impossible for it to do everything alone.

“This is why we need partners such as Limbe Leaf because the trophies being competed for have helped to keep the youth busy and some of them have even played for our national teams.”

He said by keeping the youth busy, the trophies have also helped to reduce inappropriate behaviour among the youth such as beer drinking.

Limbe Leaf managing director Rodney Hagger said his company is excited to be associated with football and netball activities in Lilongwe because it is one way of giving back to the community.

“We have been sponsoring the netball and football tournaments for the past 30 years and we are happy with what we have achieved. With these trophies, we have increased skills among the youth and at the same time they have been fully empowered to face the future with optimism,” he said.
