Malawi Government has endorsed FAM’s decision to engage Flames legends Young Chimodzi and Jack Chamangwana as head coach and deputy coach respectively.
The development follows a meeting that the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) had with the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Malawi National Council of Sports on Thursday.
However, the ministry’s principal secretary Justin Saidi said: “We need to brief our seniors first before we can officially confirm. But by noon, everything should be in place.”
FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said there is a process that has to be undertaken before the duo is redeployed to FAM.
“Basically, during the meeting, we submitted a report on why we had picked the two as well as our expectations.
“However, since they are civil servants, there is a process that has to be followed. But everything being equal, we are hopeful that they should get down to work early next month,” said Nyirenda.
FAM executive committee also endorsed Franco Ndawa as team manager and Phillip Nyasulu as goalkeeper trainer while another legend Ernest Mtawali was appointed Under-20 team coach.
Chimodzi and Chamangwana were part of the Kinnah Phiri-led coaching panel that was fired early last year and were redeployed to Sports Council as regional football development officers.

  1. Insanity makes people repeat the same mistakes over and over again expecting different results. Jack and Young have both coached Malawi national football team before and were fired for not being good enough so what difference would they make this time? Are we saying these two guys have become better coaches than Kinnah Phiri just over night? Actually what were the main reasons for firing Kinnah?
I think its time we change leadership at FAM, there are some individuals there who after keeping their positions for far too long, thinks that FAM is their personal farm land.
