Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa on Tuesday opened the K470 million Nkhata Bay Bus Depot.

Speaking during the launch, the minister urged Nkhata Bay District Council to use the facility to increase its revenue generation for improved service delivery.

He asked councils to produce monthly revenue report to assess the benefits of projects government is implementing to improve their performance.

Nankhumwa commissions the market

“I will be monitoring the revenue collection just to assess if there is a change in the funds the council is raising,” said Nankhumwa.

Germany Development Agency, KfW, bankrolled the construction of the bus depot through the Local Development Fund (LDF).

Government, through LDF, is also constructing a market in the shoreline district which Nankhumwa promised to expand to accommodate more vendors.

Nkhata Bay District Council chairperson Hency Chigowo was optimistic that the bus depot will improve their revenue generation. n
