Government has allocated K400million in this year’s budget for reconstruction of Mzuzu University (Mzuni) library which was burnt down in 2015.

The new library is estimated to cost $5million (about K3.75 million). The university envisages building a modern library in three years.
Mzuni vice-chancellor Robert Ridley said the budgetary allocation is enough for preparatory works as the university expects more funds in future budgets and from other partners.
Virginia-Tech University in US will come up with the designs by December, he said.
Mzuni Students Representative Council president Wazamazama Katatu said a new library will offer learners a better environment for studying than the makeshift library which is small and deprive the learners of leisure activities which used to happen in the hall. n
