Govt for more funding towards Tevet programmes

 

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Emmanuel Fabino has said Technical and Vocational Education Training (Tevet) is key to the development of Malawi hence, the need for increased funding.

The minister said this on Tuesday in Lilongwe where he opened the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (Capa), which is being hosted by Malawi.

Fabiano: Adequate funds needed

Over 200 delegates from several African countries have gathered in the capital city to brainstorm ways on how African countries can realise maximum benefits from harmonised Tvet systems.

Said Fabiano: “For a Tevet system to play its role effectively, it is important to ensure that there exists an enabling Tevet friendly environment.

“To achieve that, among other things, there is need to put in place harmonised national Tevet policies and provision of adequate funds.”

Capa secretary general Olubunmi Owoso said for Africa to develop there is great need to invest in entrepreneurship education.

“This conference is about brainstorming and finding solutions to make Africa self-reliant,” he said. n
