Govt hails China satellite TV project donation

Minister of Information, Civic Education and Communications Technology Mark Botomani has commended the Chinese Government for the 500 villages satellite television (TV) project.

Through the project, China has donated 500 sets of Star digital TV integrated with decoders, 1 000 sets of solar projector TV system and 10 000 sets of digital decoders.

Botomani was speaking at Nankhawali Primary School in Traditional Authority Nankhumwa in Mangochi on Saturday where he received the donation from Chinese Embassy charge de’ affaires Wang Xiusheng.

Said the minister: “This project brings enormous benefits such as educational tools to learners, cultural and news programmes. People will be able to watch not only what is happening in Malawi but also outside the world.”

The donation was made under the Access to Satellite TV for 10 000 African Villages project which was announced at a Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (Focac) in South Africa in 2015.

On his part, Wang said the project will help local people to have access to information from across the world. He said he hopes that through the project, Malawians will enjoy the cultural diversity in the programmes.
