Speaking when receiving the donation, MoH Principal Secretary (PS) Dan Namarika thanked the board for the donation.

He said: “We are at war with a disease that we previously thought is just Chinese. We are at war with a disease that is testing our governance at all levels even at household levels. The pandemic has tested our health systems and the socio-economic status of our people.”

The PS said the secret to managing the pandemic is leadership and so far the world is not winning the war.

He said there is need to put aside things that are putting lives at huge risk.

On his part, Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Board chief executive officer Foster Mlumbe called on people to unite in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: “We cannot afford to leave the responsibility of fighting this battle to government alone. The effect of this pandemic is cross-cutting and so players from different sectors should come in and play a role.”

Mlumbe added that the board is also disseminating messages on effective Covid-19 preventive measures to all operators under their office.

Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Board chairperson Billy Banda warned against using social media to share wrong information on Covid-19 that creates anxiety among citizens
