Minister of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) Nicholas Dausi has said government is committed to developing the communications sector by attracting more players into it.

Dausi made the remarks yesterday in response to concerns by various members of Parliament (MPs) in the House on the situation of power telecommunications services in the country, especially mobile phone networks.

Dausi: We want more players

The legislators asked government to consider bringing in more players if the current network providers to increase competition and improve service delivery.

“It is the wish of the government that more players should enter the market, but as you know, this is a liberalised economy, therefore we cannot drag the players into the industry. We can only create a conducive environment and provide incentives to attract them to come,” he said.

Dausi further said a number regulations have been put in place to promote the sector, including infrastructure sharing, interconnection, quality service, and numbering, licensing, broadcasting, tariffs and consumer protection, among others.
