Government has admitted laxity in the maintenance of hospitals and health centres nationwide, attributing the problem to lack of resources.

Speaking in response to a question from Salima Central member of Parliament (MP) Felix Jumbe (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) on maintenance, Minister of Health Peter Kumpalume said government will work swiftly to deal with the problem.

Jumbe wanted to know government’s plan on maintenance of hospitals and health centres.

In response, Kumpalume said: “I am aware of this problem and government is currently working to deal with this problem. Before I was minister I also noticed. But let me say that while some of these buildings are old, the people living in it do not take care of them.

“Even equipment maintenance has not been good either, but government is working on it. Very shortly we will see some changes.”
