Jamaican reggae powerhouse Gramps Morgan says he is excited to be returning to Malawi ahead of his appearance at this year’s Sand Music Festival.

This will be the artist’s third visit to Malawi after his appearance in 2015 and 2018 as part of Morgan Heritage, a family band that he is part of.

Gramps: I am really excited

Speaking in an exclusive interview from his base in the US, the artist could not hide his excitement at the prospect of returning to Malawi and said it is a moment that he has been waiting for for so long.

“It feels so amazing to be back in Malawi. I have always dreamt of returning to this country to perform my solo songs. I have heard the success of my songs from my first album there. I gather they are very popular,” he said.

The People Like You hit-maker said he has fond memories of Malawi, especially the beautiful Lake Malawi, the agriculture activities, the peace and above all the passion that Malawians have for reggae music.

Gramps Morgan will perform new songs from his recently released album Positive Vibration for the first time.

He said: “I have taken time during the Covid-19 break to create a new sound. I am really excited to share with the people. It is a sound of enjoyment, sunshine, appreciation and fun.”

The artist has promised Malawians a great time during his third visit and he said he hopes people from neighbouring countries will use the same opportunity to watch his performance too.

“Expect a lot of fun and upliftment, from your heart, soul and spirit. I will play songs to make you feel like you are in the islands and release you from all the stress that the world has gone through during this time of the pandemic,” he said.

The Jamaican is one of the international headline acts for the 11th edition of the Sand Music Festival which is slated for October 1 to 3 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.

Creator of the festival Lucius Banda said this year they have made several adjustments to their performance schedules. He said there will be performances starting as early as 10 in the morning.

Banda said: “People have been complaining of the idle hours, but this year they will be in for a new experience. Immediately after the morning aerobic sessions, artists will take to the stage. We have assembled a big pool of artists and every space will be filled with an activity.”
