A group called Sanitation Measures in Machinga has donated six dust bins to Machinga District Council to improve sanitation in schools.
The group’s executive director, Ben Masiku, said his organisation was established in 2010 to improve sanitation in schools, hospitals and in areas around Liwonde Township.
He said the organisation’s goal is to ensure that people are living in hygienic environment and that they have disposal facilities such as bins.
Sanitation Measures is currently working in traditional authorities Nkula and Sitola and is targeting schools.
Machinga district education manager Sarah Khozi commended the group for the donation, saying this would improve sanitation in schools.
She said her office encourages sanitation in schools, adding that the donation would complement schools’ initiatives on sanitation.
Machinga district health officer Arnold Kapachika said the donation would contribute to Machinga District Hospital’s drive to prevent infection to ensure a healthy environment. n
