Chichewa rap star Gwamba has announced that he has restructured his music direction under his new management of Soul Rebel Entertainment.

Gwamba: I am also focusing on my personality

“I see myself as new Gwamba who is more focused on music that can help to bring social change especially among young people in our society. At the same time I am approaching my music career as both a business person and artist,” said Gwamba.

A majority of urban musicians in Malawi hardly embrace music as a business as they doubt their abilities to make a breakthrough. As a result, these people end up pursuing other careers to make ends meet.

But Gwamba said he is determined to break the jinx by achieving both great financial and social success.

He said he is aiming at influencing behaviour change among young people and achieving big business through music.

“I want young people to look at me as someone they can draw inspiration from both as an artist and a human being. While I am striving to accomplish a successful music business that can motivate others, I am also focusing on my personality so that it reflects my new vision,” he said.

Among other projects, Gwamba has been featured on a powerful advocacy single called Siuli Wekha produced under UNFPA Malawi’s Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme.

The song, which advocates for the rights of a girl-child at the expense of her oppression, also takes on board Piksy, Young Kay, Nesness, Faith Mussa and Lilongwe-based rapper Third Eye.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Gwamba has announced the launch of his second album called Chako Si Changa, which is slated for release on November 22 at Lilongwe Golf Club.

The Bola Kusache hitmaker, has so far released two songs from his new album namely; Ineyo Wa Lero, which features Lulu and Munthu.

Gwamba will be supported by Lucius Banda, Lulu, Nepman, Patience Namadingo, Tay Grin and Soul Rebel Entertainment artists during his album launch.
