This has come to light as MEC is preparing to accredit institutions that will conduct civic education for the 2019 Tripartite Elections.

The five CSOs, namely, National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice), Governance Gender, Justice and Development, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCPJ), Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (Cyece) and Circle for Integrated Community Development (Cicod) confirmed their readiness during a Lilongwe District Accredited Civil Society Organisations Meeting organised by MEC.

Lilongwe District Council finance director Charles Mhone said in an interview that the remaining six CSOs stated that they are mobilising resources. The voter registration is scheduled to start on May 24 2018.

“CSOs should work together to ensure successful civic education which is vital for the electorate,” said Mhone.

Programs support officer for Cyece, Grace Mwale, told the meeting that her organisation is set and has mobilised funds for the exercise.
