With an average of eight games to wind up the Central Region Pool League (CRPL) 2012 season, 13 of the league’s 26 teams are already out of the race.

Those that have fallen aside are FIB, Falls, Keta, Zero Degrees, Alliance One, Achewa, Kamuzu Barracks, Ndatherapano, Grittaz, S5 Ladies, JTI, Gulliver and Hellipoters.

According to the log table, these teams cannot dislodge the current leaders, Sunset, even if they win all their remaining games.

Sunset is topping the table with 88 points from 42 games. Other teams in the race are Top Level, Michigan, Incognito, Umqombothi, S5, Treatment, Red Sea, Mango, Snippers, Siege, Hakuna Matata and Adventures.

Top Level are on second position with 87 points from 42 games whereas Michigan, who also have 87 points and have also played 42 games, are third, disadvantaged on goal aggregate.

Incognito and S5 are trailing on positions four and five with 86 and 81 points from 42 and 41 games, respectively.

Last year’s runners-up, Treatment, are on sixth position with 75 points whereas defending champions, Siege, are struggling on 11th position with 71 points.

CRPL general secretary William Nyirenda said: “The defending champions and runners-up are also struggling to find their rhythm. This shows that the league has been competitive throughout. This speaks volumes on how stiff the league has been this year.”

Nyirenda appealed to all the teams to maintain discipline as the league goes into crucial stages.
