‘Hasten 842 million audit’

Listen to this article

Traditional Authority Chimombo of Nsanje has asked government to send independent auditors to Nsanje District Council to trace K842 million that went missing in the 2017/18 fiscal year.

Another report of 2018/19 finished this year, shows that K100 million went missing.

Chimombo: Employees are suffering

Chimombo said he was puzzled that no one was arrested in connection with the missing money.

“They said auditors are looking into the matter, but the council’s direct employees and support staff are spending many months without receiving salaries due to the alleged theft,” he said.

Two support staff members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they have gone for eight months without receiving salaries.

Nsanje District Council chairperson Andrew Piriminta confirmed that auditors are investigating the matter.

“I agree with Senior Chief Chimombo that the matter is delaying as people are waiting for the findings,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nsanje Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson Mike Dansa said they have written the Anti-Corruption Bureau to intervene.
