Hawks compound misery on Cobbe in Nsejjere League

Sparc Hawks FC on Sunday added Cobbe Barracks FC to the list of casualties with a 2-0 win in a Premier Division match of the Nsejjere Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League.

Striker Isaac Banda claimed a brace to enable his side move to position 15 with 19 points from 15 games. This was Cobbe’s third loss in the league after defeats at the hands of Evirom FC and Blantyre United.

The Zomba-based soldiers seem to have lost ground in their past four games. Their coach Chifundo Masapula has attributed the team’s inconsistent form to the injury of five regular players.

He said players such as Edson Mapila, Andrew Malenga, Thoko Banda, George Pahuwa, Shadrick Mphambo and Saopa Mpotalinga are all out of action due to injuries.

“It is like I am rebuilding the team and cohesion is currently lacking due to the absence of the five key players. But I will make sure that we quickly rectify our shortfalls to stay on course for the league title,” said Masapula.

Cobbe are now living dangerously at the summit of the table as they have stagnated on 36 points from 18 games. Max Bullets, who beat BNC Produsak 4-1, are now breathing down their necks on second position with 35 points from 17 games.

Lower Shire side Nchalo United are third with 34 points from 19 games, having defeated White Eagles 4-0 at Kalulu Stadium.

Other results were Michiru Madrid 1 MDF Marine 3, Polytechnic 0 Changalume Barracks 2, Bvumbwe Research 1 Blantyre United 0, Nyasa United 1 Zomba United 3.
