Speaking when he unveiled the sponsorship, Sparc Systems managing director Wisely Phiri said as a Malawian company, they felt duty-bound to assist towards the development of sports in the country through football sponsorship.

“The sponsorship is for a year subject to review depending on the target that we have set, which is earning promotion into the Super League. Accountability will also be key in determining our future relationship,” said Phiri.

He said when Hawks were asked to submit a sponsorship proposal, they came up with a K3.4 million ($7 556) budget, “but we went a step further and offered them a maximum of K5 million.”

He said apart from getting a request for sponsorship, the other reason they chose Hawks is because they are a disciplined side which has never been associated with acts of violence and hooliganism.

“We started assisting them last year by, among other things, providing them with equipment, but this time we have decided to go full-scale,” said Phiri.

The club’s treasurer Moses Dossi Jnr and general secretary Isaacs Zimba said they are lucky to be one of the few teams in the lower leagues to have sponsorship.

Sparc Systems is a multi-product system integration company operating in Malawi and across Africa.
