She began singing at the age of 11. Today, she has performed at various events and boasts of a catalogue of projects she collaborated with both local and international artists.

And now, the United Kingdom (UK) based Malawian singer Hazel Mak has been signed to Grajoh Entertainment, a Ugandan artist management and public relations company.

This is the firm that manages Annie Kansiime and Idringi Salvado, some of the top comedians in Kampala.

“We are thrilled to announce the signing of Malawian Hazel Mak with Grajoh Limited and welcome her to Grajoh family. Effective immediately, Hazel will be directly managed by Grajoh CEO Johnson Mujungu,” reads a post on the firm’s website, www.grajoh.com.

While confirming that Grajoh are running her management and public relations activities, the artist who recently released a single Liyaya, could not hide her excitement.

“It is confirmed that I’m under their management. It means a lot to me to finally have an expert such as Johnson Mujungu manage me. Grajoh understands my vision and are just as passionate as I am about my career.

“To have a great manager like him will definitely push my career further. I want to be an international household name. I want to be the first female artist that people think of when they think or hear about Malawi,” said the artist in an interview from the UK.

Hazel Mak could not, however, divulge much about the deal and her participation at the Grajoh Afrikafest 2015.

“Speak to them about it. I don’t want to say much. Johnson is in the best position to give you all the information you need,” she said.

Grajoh Afrikafest, an all-inclusive and purely socio-cultural event, will take place on October 3 in London.

According to their website www.grajoh.com, confirmed artists include Hazel Mak, Zambia’s Mampi Mukape and a couple of others from Uganda.

She is currently completing her sophomore effort titled Nyumba on Fire that promises a mixture of Afro-soul, R ‘n’ B, house and pop sounds produced by Brian ‘Gods Favourite’ Nkata, Tendai Shaba, Chuka Royalty, Majumi ‘Majbeats’ Gondwe with Dominic ‘D1’ Sangalakula as the executive producer.
