Heavy rains that have been falling in some parts of Mzimba have displaced at least 26 households in the district.

Gopani said his office has already submitted a report to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) to look into the issue.

“The families will need relief items as they lost items in the disaster. Some of the victims are being accommodated by neighbours,” he said.

The officer said officials will soon visit the areas to assess the damage.

Village head Loti Chisambi said the disaster also damaged schools and teachers’ houses in Mabiri Zone in the district.

“A school block was damaged at Kasukanthanga Primary School. A classroom block, teacher’s house and toilets were damaged at Musyafuta Primary School,” he said.

Mzimba district commissioner Thomas Chirwa said officials were working  on reports of the damage.
