Hillary Clinton offers to work with Trump

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton yesterday conceded defeat and pledged to work with United States of America (US) President-elect Donald Trump.

Speaking in an address monitored on CNN last evening, Clinton said she hoped that Trump will be a successful US president although the results were not what she and her camp had hoped for.

In her emotional first public reaction to the loss, Clinton told her supporters she knew how disappointed they felt.

She told her supporters that she felt the same way too and so did tens of millions of Americans who invested their hopes and dreams in the outcome of the election.

Clinton further implored her supporters to accept the result and look to the future as well as cherish a peaceful transfer of power.

“I still believe in America and I always will. And if you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead,” she said.

Clinton also expressed gratitude to USA and all that it has given her, saying that she counts her blessings that she is an American every day and that she feels honoured to have had a chance to represent her people on the ballot.

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama also congratulated Trump and invited him to a meeting to discuss a smooth transition. n
