Hiras FC lift Sammy’s Super Cup
Hiras FC thrashed Limbe Socials 6-0 to lift the K2 million (about $6 060) Sammy’s Super Cup after thrashing Limbe Socials 6-0 at Blantyre Teachers College on Sunday.
Hiras players ‘had no respect’ for the sponsor Sameer Suleiman who was Limbe Socials’ goalkeeper. They tormented him with blazing shots, five of which were too hot for him to handle. He was substituted five minutes before the final whistle.
It was a memorable experience to see Suleiman trying in vain to save his side from an embarrassing defeat.
Despite making some incredible saves, Suleiman could not stop five sizzling thunderbolts that amazed the cheering crowd.
By the end of the first-half, Hiras led 3-0 through Amos Khamula’s brace and Osborn Chinthenga’s notch. Come second-half Limbe Socials started with all guns-blazing. Austin Hendrix and Sameer’s brother, Suri struck the posts within three minutes.
But Hiras retaliated with precision such that Chinthenga scored his second goal in the 55th minute. This fourth goal dampened Limbe Socials’ fighting spirit as their defence let-in two more goals by substitute Boyd Munyenyembe and Philbert Sakala.
“Hiras outplayed us. We accept the defeat. This was not our day,” explained Suleiman before presenting the trophy to the winning captain, Shaffie Mkwanda.
Hiras received K200 000 (about $606) while the runners-up got K120 000 (about $363). Bottle Tops beat BCA Stars 2-1 to win third-place and take home K60 000 (about $181).
Ishmael Ziembe of Hiras was the best player of the tournament and man of the match whereas Red Eye’s Eric Magombo and Kings’ United’s Christopher Chisasa emerged joint top scorers with 21 goals apiece.
