Representative of young people living positively with HIV from across the country held a day-long seminar in Salima to come up with an action plan and operational strategy on how best they can progress.
Coalition of Women Living with HIV and Aids (Cowlha) executive director Anne Banda said young people living positively with HIV have been ignored for a long time and their problems are not appreciated.
“Since the Association of Young People Living with HIV was formed two years ago, nothing tangible has happened. This conference will, therefore, formulate an action plan that will be used to mobilise resources to advocate for their cause,” said Banda.
Association of Young People Living with HIV president Faith Kalonga appealed for government intervention to ensure that sexual and reproductive health are integrated with HIV services.
National Youth Council director Aubrey Chibwana, who was the guest of honour at the seminar, promised government support to solve the challenges that young people living with HIV are facing.
ActionAid Malawi and Cowlha, funded the seminar. n
