Drama has started unfolding in the Hotel Victoria Match Play Golf Tournament where tables are being turned upside down.

And reminiscent of the biblical story of the little David bringing down the giant Goliath, Adriano Guarino and Andrew Santhe, who won a similar competition sponsored by Lab Enterprise, now know the taste of defeat as they were humbled by the revelations of the tournament—Harry Mukaka and Alex Chitsime.

Eric Chapola and the towering John Gift Mwakhwawa also bowed out to the pair of Tarang Makhecha and Victor Jere on hole number 15.

Commenting on Chapola and Mwakhwawa’s exit, one of the tournament’s organisers Justice John Katsala mockingly said: “They have no experience of first-round matches having enjoyed walkovers in previous competitions. Obviously, first-round nerves took their toll!”

Kenam Siula and the phombe ya moto champion, Colen Sibande, could not see beyond hole number 15 as they were completely dazzled by the brilliance of Charles Nseula and the often underrated Charles Merrick.

“A warm Green in the clubhouse was the only consolation for Colen,” scorned Katsala. Gladson Kuyeri and Thomas Mkosi were not very accommodating to their opponents from Thyolo, Nirby Singh and Rajeev Singh, who they demolished stylishly and quickly dispatched them back to Thyolo to continue with what they know best….growing tea!
