House collapses, kills two in Nkhotakota

malawi-policeTwo people died and another one sustained serious injuries on Tuesday after a house collapsed on them in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

Nkhunga Police station officer Superintendent Edwin Magalasi told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Danger Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kanyenda in the district.

He said the house, belonging to Kamzati Kadiwa Phiri, collapsed following heavy rains in the area.

Magalasi identified the two who were pronounced dead upon arrival at Matiki Health Centre as Godfrey Mpaya, 55, of Nyanje Village, T/A Kanyenda, Nkhotakota and a 30-year-old, James Ngulube of Mdilira Tembo Village, T/A Mzukuzuku in Mzimba.

“The survivor Justine Moto, sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to Nkhotakota District Hospital. Moto, 28, comes from Binali Village, T/A Namkumba in Mangochi,” Magalasi said.

He said the three were drinking Kachasu at Phiri’s compound when they met their fate.
