The decent and affordable housing subsidy programme (Dahsp) has rolled out in Luchenza Municipality as mayor Harold Kaliwo pleads with government to increase allocation for the programme in the area.

Kaliwo was speaking in an interview after inspecting some of the houses constructed under the programme.

He said construction of the houses is evidence enough to the people of Luchenza that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government is committed to promoting their livelihoods.

However, Kaliwo pleaded with government to consider allocating more houses to Luchenza Municipality in the programme next year, saying 15 houses are not enough for a population of 26 000 residents.

“It is my plea to government to consider Luchenza and give us all 85 houses which each constituency is entitled to,” said Kaliwo.

He expressed satisfaction in the way the project has started, saying he would ensure that beneficiaries are not misusing the resources given.

He said the project is running smoothly because the citizens were given a leading role to identify beneficiaries among themselves.

One of the beneficiaries, Violet Black from group village head Chonde in Luchenza said her dream of having a decent house has finally come true.

The decent and affordable housing subsidy programme was introduced by the DPP government to improve living conditions of people in the country.
