How much make-up is too much?

Listen to this article

While many women delight in the joys of make-up, some men point out that they (women) sometimes get a little heavy-handed with the brushes, powder puffs, foundation, eye-shadow and other beauty enhancers. So, just how much make-up is too much? CECILIA KAPALAMULA poses this question to men and women on the streets of Blantyre.

Jonathan Kam’mangeni: Machinjiri

Make-up is a supplement that is supposed to add beauty to a woman if used appropriately. However, there are some women who abuse the make-up by over-doing it while others do not know how to apply it altogether. For instance, you will find a beautiful dark-skinned woman who has applied powder meant for light-skinned women. This does not look nice. It becomes embarrassing to see a woman looking like a Gule Wamkulu (mask dancer). I would urge women to find out how certain products are used and to test them for shade accuracy before making any purchases because this will save them a lot of embarrassment!

Teleza Sandramu: Mbayani

We wear make-up because we want to look pretty. This does not mean that we feel insecure; we would just like to enhance our beauty. Every one is conscious about how they look; if they were not, there would be no need for mirrors, tooth brushes and other things. I also want to differ with people, especially men, who are of the view that make up is not good. These are the same people who are in the fore-front dumping their wives for prostitutes who look nice. Frankly speaking, most of the prostitutes look attractive because of the make- up they use.

Martha Kanjedza: Ndirande

People use make-up for different reasons. Some women wear it because their skin is imperfect. This is just an indication that they feel insecure about their appearances.

Macdonald Kumtechele: Chemusa

I think a woman without make-up is confident and appreciates her God-given beauty. Even the Bible testifies that God created man in His own image. Therefore, there is no way God would create a human being that is ugly. We just need to appreciate what He gave us.
