Upmarket Blantyre entertainment joint HS Winehouse Lounge has closed shop as it plans to relocate to the lakeshore district of Mangochi.

Owner of the entertainment facility, Rachel Mijiga, said the high demands to operate the facility coupled with other equally rising service needs in the area have necessitated their decision to close the place.

“Coming this far, we are proud of the contributions that we have made in the promotion of the art and entertainment industry. As a brand which firmly believes in public service provision, we have noted another area of need which we feel compelled to address as at now,” she said.

The facility, situated in Namiwawa residential estate, has played host to a number of high-profile events featuring both local and international acts since it opened its doors in 2014.

She expressed her gratitude for the patronage the place enjoyed of the years .

“They were always a good patrons and customers. Luckily this is not the end of our contribution in this area. We are opening a similar place in Mangochi close to Sun ‘N’ Sand Holiday Resort. We are hopeful that come December we will be operational,” she said.

Nkhwachi Mhango, who  acted as events coordinator at the place, said he was saddened by the development.

“We built a very good rapport with the Blantyre audience which was cutting across multiple artistic facets. We brought poets, musicians and theatre players to the place.” he said.”
