Hundreds of Mozambicans are fleeing into Malawi’s Mwanza and Neno districts amid growing hostilities in the neighbouring country between the government’s Frelimo and opposition’s Renamo factions. Already, Mwanza District has received about 700 Mozambicans, mostly children, seeking refuge. This week, a group of about 70 Mozambicans arrived at Luwani Camp in Neno amid concerns from the locals that the ‘visitors’ may start terrorising the area as was the case with the first group to camp there during their country’s civil war (1977-1992) in which one million people died.
