President of the New Labour Party (NLP), Friday Jumbe, says he is the right candidate Malawians should consider for the presidency because he has the expertise to fight financial mismanagement.

Jumbe was speaking at Nyambadwe ground in Ndirande on Saturday when he unveiled NLP parliamentary candidate for Blantyre Malabada constituency, Jasmine Solanke.

The former Finance minister said with his economics background, he was best placed to deal with the financial scam that has rocked Capital Hill and led to withdrawal of donor support.

“I am not bragging, but its best to call a spade a spade. There are a lot of people trying to sell themselves to the electorate, but none has my expertise. We cannot claim to have clocked 50 years of independence if our economy remains shattered and Malawians continue to live below the poverty line,” he said.

He was flanked by, among others, his vice-president Sam Mpasu and secretary general Joseph Kubwalo.

On her part, Solanke said on her return from the United Kingdom after 13 years, she was appalled to see that the country had stagnated in economic growth.

“I feel for this country and my fellow youths. It is time to bring change through NLP and find solutions to our idling youths,” she said.
