I am ready for Blue Mingoli—Namadingo

Gospel musician Patience Namadingo, who takes to the stage with South Africa’s award-winning Afro-pop musician Zonke Dikana for the Blue Mingoli Concert tomorrow, says he is set to give patrons the best.

Namadingo said this at a press briefing in Blantyre yesterday afternoon, adding he has been rehearsing for the event for the past two weeks.

“This is one different show. Malawians are used to several musicians or bands performing at a show, but this is a totally different one. There are going to be only two bands on the stage,” he said.

“It is the cream of corporate events and I am ready to show them that Malawi is prepared for the concert. I have been rehearsing with my band every day for the past two weeks in preparation for the event. Who knows, next time Standard Bank would be inviting me for such an event outside the country.”

The event takes place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) in Lilongwe with the South African musician expected to jet into the country this afternoon.

Namadingo, who has redefined gospel music by fusing some traditional aspects in executing the genre, said he has also listened to Zonke’s songs and watched some of her live performances, stressing she will be a familiar character when they meet on stage.

“It is really an honour and I do not want to disappoint anyone. Since I got this booking, I have been waking up at 4am every day to practise. I do not have to say much here, but I am urging everyone to come and see what will be on offer.

“Often, Malawians get shaken when there is a foreign artist coming. But this time I want to show everyone that Malawians are able to do it,” he added.

Namadingo said he also used the Lake of Stars event held at Chintheche, Nkhata Bay, in September—where patrons urged him to stay on stage and keep performing despite his time running out—to prepare for the showdown. n
