I am sorry—Msungama

A 47-member Bullets delegation was supposed to leave the country by road on Saturday, but on the eve of the trip, Msungama called for a meeting with his executive committee in Blantyre where he suggested whether it would be wise to proceed with the trip or use the money he had pledged to settle players’ outstanding dues.

Msungama apologised during a heated joint executive and main supporters meeting held at Alexander’s Shire Highlands Hotel in Limbe Saturday afternoon. The meeting was also attended by some senior players.

“To you members of the press present here, please quote me right. I apologise to all Bullets followers and the nation for what has happened.

“Do not blame the executive committee or the supporters committee. I will shoulder the blame. However, while the timing for the change was wrong. I still stick to my guns that I made the right decision in the best interest of the team,” said Msungama.

He said the money that he had pledged [K4 million] will be diverted towards settling players dues or buying new players.

Reacting to Msungama’s remarks, the club’s treasurer, Noel Lipipa, said: “This is the right decision, but it should have been made at the right time. Nevertheless, I commend you for the move, better late than never, but the challenge will now be to minimise the damage.”

On his part, Fote said: “This is a crisis, but it is good that the chairperson has owned the mistake and has apologised. Now we have to move on and see how we can forge ahead.”

Speaking on behalf of his friends, SankhaniMkandawire backed Msungama’s decision.

Said Mkandawire: “I think the only problem was the timing; otherwise, the decision to settle players’ dues, rather than proceed with the trip, is commendable. We can go to South Africa at anytime, even during the first-round break. Priority should be players’ welfare.”

Other players who attended the meeting were ChikumbutsoKanyenda, James Chilapondwa, Douglas Chirambo, DiversonMlozi and Vincent Gona.
