I want to make it to the Olympics

Akossa,

I am an athlete. I have always believed that one day I would make it to the Olympic Games. What discourages me is my age. I am 36 years-old and people tell me that it’s impossible for me to follow my dreams because I do not have the strength to compete against younger athletes. Do you believe I can make it?

Ed’s response

Dear reader,

Unfortunately, I cannot give a plausible response to your question, since I am not an expert on sports and athletics. I can, however, give you the motivation you need to follow your dream through and do everything it takes to ensure that you achieve your goals. You know, age is only a number. What matters most is your will-power and how you prepare yourself for the role you want to take up. As an athlete, do you train your body and eat healthy? Do you take time out to perfect your skill? What kind of athletics do you engage in?

Forget what people tell you and approach the Malawi Olympic Committee and ask them to assess you. If they think that you are in great shape and can manage to compete, then go for it. If you compete and do badly, remember that you tried and that trying to make your dreams come true is better than just sitting around painting pictures in your mind but doing nothing about it.

Good luck and Godspeed!
