South Africa-based Malawian boxer Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba’s says he is optimistic of winning his upcoming bout against Russian Fedor Chudinov scheduled for February 20.

The former IBO light heavyweight champion is set to leave for the Russian capital Moscow on Saturday from Johannesburg in the countdown to the fight.

Chilemba is expected to leave for Russia this Saturday

He said: “My preparations have been great and I am in shape and looking forward to the bout.

“I am definitely going for a win, I will come back victorious.”

The 33-year-old said he will focus on the final touches from next week.

The bout has previously been postponed three times due to Covid-19 and other logistical challenges in the past year.

The Chilomoni Township raised boxer said they will fight in super middleweight category.

“If I win this one then I could have another one and then challenge for a title,” said Chilemba who boasts  of  26 wins (10 TKO), seven losses (one TKO) and two draws.

Chudinov, who is also 33, has won 23 bouts and lost only twice  since turning professional in 2020.

However, the celebrated Malawian boxer said he is not in a cold sweat with his opponent’s impressive record.

“I am not under any pressure, I am good to go.

“Records are there to be broken and if I win this one, it will give me a big boost,” he said.

Chilemba last fought in December 2019 when he beat another Russian Alexander Kubich on unanimous points decision in Russia.
