Yasin ‘Ichocho’ Suwedi has completed his training sessions at the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex Gym in Blantyre and has decided not to talk to the press until a few days to the next bodybuilding championships.

The 27-year-old said he wants to keep away from the media so as not to give away his level of preparedness to his opponents.

“I trained as if I am expecting to contest against the world top bodybuilders such as six-time Olympic champion John Jackson of the USA. I do not see any local athlete who can make me nervous now. However, for now, I will keep away from the press,” he said.

He said no one has influenced his decision to give himself a ‘media holiday’.

“Athletes in each sporting discipline are supposed to speak out all their feelings because that’s what makes sports popular. Speaking too much in the press shows that I love bodybuilding so much,” he said.

Recently, defending Mr Malawi national champion Henry Master appealed to companies and the stakeholders to organise an ad hoc competition so that he could silence Ichocho (his runner-up) whom he said was talking too much in the press.

Meanwhile, CoM Sports Complex and George Yiannakis have pledged more surprises on sponsorship for Ichocho if he wins the Mr. Malawi title this year.

Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi president Richard Kuwali said they are expecting to conduct the National Bodybuilding Championships in October.
