ICT key to academic research

Airtel Malawi has said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is crucial to academic research and progression.

Airtel Malawi’s managing director Heiko Schlittke said this on Thursday at University of Livingstonia(Unilia) in Rumphi where the company donated ten ZTE 3G tablets.

ictSchlittke said as investors, his company is fully aware that education grows the economy and future of the country.

“ Therefore we will continue donating gadgets to various universities in the country, as we are best positioned and established to make international research available to everybody, even as far and remote as Livingstonia,”Schlittke said.

In his remarks students union’s president Vitumbiko Thindwa expressed gratitude for the support.

While dean of students Reverend Henry Mvula said the school has 40 computers against a population of 600 students; hence the donation will go a long way in relieving the students and staff from internet woes.

Apart from Unilia, Airtel also donated the tablets to Kamuzu College of Nursing, Malawi Adventist University and College of Medicine.
