Information Minister, I would intervene in ensuring that public broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) opens up to all political parties during the campaign period in preparation for the May 20 Tripartite Elections.

If I were BJ, I would appreciate that despite President Joyce Banda’s directive that MBC should open up, the public broadcaster has not done so. How I wish I were my good ‘ole man that is BJ, because I would realise that most journalists and presenters that work for the public broadcaster are professionals, but they do not properly perform their duties either because they are instructed to have limits in the coverage of the opposition or they are afraid of losing their jobs.

I would appreciate that when the governing People’s Party (PP) rallies are beamed live by the national broadcaster and repeated in the evening, then the playing field is not levelled.

Yes, while all the ruling parties have enjoyed such previlege in the past, it does not mean that such practice is right and I would take it upon mysef as a qualified journalist to correct the situation. After all, my boss ‘Amayi’ categorically urged MBC to open up when she took over the mantle from her late predecessor Bingu wa Mutharika in April 2012.

I would appreciate the importance of providing equal opportunities to all political parties during this campaign period.

That is only if I were the Information Minister. Unfortunately, I am not the dude that is BJ.
